Writing an "international" thriller is not Grisham's forte. Adding Mitch and Abby was just to sell books. I knew when Mitch got food poisoning and no one was suspicious that the author was out of his depth. The ending was a huge disappointment.

Reading thru the comments, I see I wasn't the only one slightly disappointed by this book. I was made aware it was 3 short stories before starting the book, so I didn't have that shock.
It's like Grisham started another story about Jake and then decided he didn't want to do all the work involved in writing a full length story. A contractual obligation to his publisher? So he penned two more short stories to add to it. And I am getting so tired of the current political situation in our country being slyly inserted into every current fiction book you read. As if the authors are afraid if they don't, they'll be "cancelled."
The second story was good. Again a short story that contained the legs for a full-length book, but didn't happen.
The third story? I couldn't believe Grisham wrote this one. Nothing redeemable about this story at all.Reading thru the comments, I see I wasn't the only one slightly disappointed by this book. I was made aware it was 3 short stories before starting the book, so I didn't have that shock.

My reasons for reading this book had nothing to do with Covid. The author being the son of Robert Kennedy and the corruption he exposed while his brother was President was the first reason I wanted to read this book. The second reason was the Aids epidemic. I read 'And the Band Played On' by Randy Shilts, but I was completely unaware the role that Fauci played in how it was handled until reading this book. The cover-ups, the sabotaging of research by other respected doctors by Fauci. Start on page 220. You'll be sick when you finish. All documented by Kennedy with sources. Thirty plus years of documentation on what this man has done. It can't ALLLLLLL be misinformation. My reasons for reading this book had nothing to do with Covid. Amazing how history repeats itself. Reading the history of the polio virus and how the medical community and government responded to it...versus the covid virus today.
Eye-opening.

This book reminded me of his early books, where you never knew what was going to happen next. Or what tricks his main character had up his sleeve that Grisham hadn't revealed as yet. Wonderfully paced and I enjoyed reading all but how he chose to end the book. This book is very similar to 'The World of Ice and Fire' in its narrative style. Martin did flesh out several of the Targaryen's in more detail, but ends the book abruptly before reaching the period known as Robert's Rebellion or the period when the dragons ceased to exist. This book is very similar to 'The World of Ice and Fire' in its narrative style. This book is full of interesting tidbits about the series. Told from the failed first pilot to the last season with the voices of the producers, the author, the showrunners, the directors and the actors themselves; it is a fascinating read. The book does explain in greater detail the thought process behind ending the series after 8 seasons but only briefly mentions the ensuing drama that followed. This book is full of interesting tidbits about the series. All Interesting comments, mine will be slightly different. Wouldn't want to be repetitious.
As others have noted, it is a quick read. My take for why it was such a quick read, was because of so many returning characters from Camino Island. A book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, being a book lover myself.
However the plot was thin, since there was really no new main characters to introduce save the victim. That said, I enjoyed revisiting the original cast of characters - now like old friends.
If you want to truly enjoy the story, read Camino Island first.
Which brings up the question, "will Grisham revisit any of his other characters?"All Interesting comments, mine will be slightly different. Wouldn't want to be repetitious.

Much as it pains me to say it, I'm afraid I have to agree with the crictics on this one. I've read all his books since he published The Tipping Point. He's always given me a new perspective on looking at life. Until this book. I eagerly opened the book to begin reading, but by Part Three, I realized that he was repeating the same "theories" that I've read by other professionals. I thought he would have a unique or new perspective. Color me sadly disappointed. If you've never read any of his other books, please go back and read them. They're awesome.Much as it pains me to say it, I'm afraid I have to agree with the crictics on this one. I've read all his books since he published The Tipping Point. I found this book to be a interesting account of President Trump. O'Reilly writes of his early life, and the path that led him to run for President. If you hate him, you will hate this book. I am so glad I'm not the only one who was extremely disappointed in this book. I made myself finish the book hoping Grisham would redeem himself by the end of the book, but no such luck. When I read the author's notes at the end of the book I found out why. He said his idea for the story came from an article he read regarding student loans.....and that was as far as he went for research. I compared this book to reading a Danielle Steel novel - all fluff and no substance. Everyone has an off book, I hope this was his "one" and only.I am so glad I'm not the only one who was extremely disappointed in this book.
