A most fascinating story with the history behind it that wouldn't let me put it down It was a sad tale indeed. I took copious notes, and now I'll see the movie! The U.S. had dreadful racism and greed that goes on to this day.

I was saddened by the book because the events resulted from pure greed. I do question the ethics of any of the white people who located there after the oil was discovered on the Osage lands as there seemed to be nothing in the area that…

I can't believe this story..from cover to cover it was just incredible..I have not seen the movie but can imagine how Scorsese portrayed the storyline as a Director...it is unfathomable how such a 'Reign of terror' was allowed..and…

A compelling true crime account of the mysterious deaths that occurred within the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. Although it is a bleak topic, the narrative style makes it easier to read and process.

I did not find this book particularly well written but stayed with it because of the story itself. A shameful story of indigenous exploitation and murder by people who did it because they could. I gave it 3 stars only because of the…

I’m about 80% through and have found it an informative and fast read for narrative nonfiction. I enjoyed the photos, learned a lot and found most of it a sad commentary on this period of our history.

Very good book, well researched. Movie concentrates on a couple of stories, while this book reveals that pretty much the whole society surrounding the Osage was in on scamming them. Few records survived to document the loss of possibly…

I always love reading works that address history in a way that's accessible to everyone, and this is definitely one of those works. With photos, extensive primary-source work, and a smooth way of incorporating those primary sources into…

Read this--then see the movie.
This is a despicable piece of American history delivered as an enthralling murder mystery. You won't put it down--or forget it.

I couldn't finish the book. I found it too disturbing. Mankind at its worst. An unpleasant reminder of what's going on all the time behind the headlines.

An extremely riveting and well-researched account of the 1920s Osage murders, the birth of the FBI, and the aftermath of the oil booms of Oklahoma which led to greater corruption, violence, and racism in the interactions between white…

It’s a great story, but it needs to be told by a different author. The author uses 2-4 quotes on every single page, which I find ridiculous. It seems as though the author struggles to use his own words so much that he has to use someone…
