Anne of Green Gables by Lucy M. Montgomery has captured the heart of an 11 year old girl like no one I’ve ever read before. Her writing style is clear and descriptive. I found myself laughing out loud so many times. Anne and all the characters grow noticeably in the story. Anne has a never ending imagination and a very strong sense of loyalty. This story is filled with love, loyalty and faith.
I would recommend the story for adults, young adults and juvenile readers it is also a perfect read a loud to share with your children.
I supplemented reading with the audio on the Libby app, particularly the version read by Laurie Klein. Ms. Klein did a very nice job with the voices.
I look forward to reading more of this series.
I'm not sure how, but I missed reading this as a child, and I'm very sorry I did. I think the best way to describe this novel is like a warm, cozy blanket. Anne of Green Gables takes us back to a time and place when picnics were the highlight of the summer, and children would spend hours picking flowers and playing by streams and using their imaginations. Where the simple joys were the best, and life was fulfilled for the grown ups by hard work, gossip and going to town. Anne comes to Green Gables on Prince Edward Island in Nova Scotia in the late 1800's quite by accident, and bewitches everyone she meets with her optimism, her joy, her clumsiness and her daydreams. The novel itself takes place over about 5 years- from the time Anne is 11 until she is 16. She goes to school and plays with her best friend Diana, makes plenty of mistakes, and just charms the pants off of her adults, a brother and sister named Marilla and Matthew.
I absolutely enjoyed myself reading about Anne and a simpler way of life. It certainly makes me want to visit Prince Edward Island- and I can definitely see myself continuing with the series.
I can hardly believe I never read this book growing up! I absolutely loved reading about quirky, charismatic, and wholly unique Anne Shirley. Montgomery was an incredibly talented author with as much imagination and artistic style as our Anne. The story of an eleven-year old orphan who finds an unexpected home in the least likely of places, Anne of Green Gables is the first in a series. Everyone should read this delightful book - I can't wait to continue the series, although I am cautious about the sequels remaining quite as good as the first!
A wonderful tale about a thrilling and an imaginative girl named Anne. Her sweet nature draws happiness and joy where ever she goes and her optimistic yet romantic view on life draws readers to love her charisma. Anne of Green Gables is by far my top 10 books and makes me eager to read all the books! So far I love it!
Love it! My sister hates it! It's just amazing!
Note to self: remember where you left off in the series and continue!
Second note to self: ask mom if the TV series is any good!
Anne of Green Gables is a classic "children's" novel that anyone can read. The story follows a young orphan girl given a chance at having a family with two middle-aged siblings, in the heart of Prince Edward Island. The story truly is a break from reality, allowing the reader to become engulfed in the mind of a young Anne with her unique imagination of the world around her. This book inspires not only my vocabulary, but how I choose to look at the world. The more times you read the book, the more you notice about the characters & their stories. Definitely one of my favourite children's novels. 5 Stars

i read this book as part of the list of 300 books everyone should read once featured on Listopia. i felt sure i had read it before, but maybe i had just seen the movie so many times. i will definately go on to read the rest of the series.
A sweet, classic tale with a fiery heroine that I love and always will love. There is hardly any romance, but in the following instalments… Anne ❤️ Gilbert Blythe.
One age suitability note: technically anyone 6+ could read this, but probably only tweens and teens would find it interesting.
A beautifully written heart-warming story for readers of all ages.
“Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it… Yet.”
I simply love Anne of Green Gables, the whole story is amazing! The entire collection is for everyone to read, no matter your age. It is a classic!
Read this for my book club. We read an ELL edition. Loved Anne. We discussed Montgomery's life and how the book mirrored her own life. Also discussed her depression and death.
The same day as our meeting, the new Historica minute featuring Montgomery was released.
An extremely charming book for all! Definitely don't let the "Young Adult" classification steer you away. Nothing truly exciting ever happened in this book - I kept waiting for a BIG moment. And sure, there were some important milestones in Anne's life, but at the same time, the story was simple throughout. Nothing magical or out of the ordinary, and somehow, this is what made it so charming! Just a quirky orphan girl who is blessed with good caretakers, who allow her to flourish to her full potential. Anne reminds us all that it's okay to be different :-)
Wholesome, fun and witty. Reading Anne of Green Gables is like spending time with your mischievous, childhood best friend. I love that it is the first in a series because once you get to know Anne, you want to know about her future and share her life just like a real friend! I would recommend this book to girls of ALL ages!
This is a wonderful coming of age novel which truly bewitches the reader into wanting more. Anne begins the book as a young and curious girl who has more questions than answers. As she matures, she gains a new insights into her old and familiar world. I particularly enjoyed Anne and Gilbert's relationship; they began as enemies who helped each other become the best they can be without initially realizing it. I found "Anne of Green Gables" to be an engaging book, and I cannot wait to read more from L. M. Montgomery.
I have just placed it on hold and I can't wait to receive it!!! I have loved the Anne with an E series at 10 years. But movies don't show full detail. I simply can't wait for this!!
Anne of Green Gables is such a charming story. Everything about it adds to how sweet it is. Anne herself is quirky and exuberant, and the way she goes about the world is so full of wonder. Her friendship with Diana is a story in itself, and her way of exploring and discovering the new world around her brings a kind of pride and self-assurance with it that is one of her unique character traits. I think I read it at the perfect time to relate to this dynamic character, and I would thoroughly recommend this book to all. It’s a true Canadian classic, and it’s one of the books that shapes the minds of youth everywhere.

Anne of Green gables by L.M Montgomery was an adventurous book. When Anne arrives at her new home, she is surprised to see that the family was expecting a boy. Anne is a girl with long orange hair, and has a very active imagination. She soon starts to make some new friends, but trouble always seems to be right around the corner when it comes to Anne. Even at school she starts to get bullied for her hair so she dyes it green. This was such a funny heart filled book. I rate this book three out of five stars.

L.M. Montgomery works her magic in this intelligent novel depicting the story of a bright and outspoken orphan named Anne. She was accidentally picked out from her foster home to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, siblings on Green Gables. From there she faces dejection, hope and love as she becomes Anne of Green Gables and goes through a series of events that are the epitome of her youth and a pleasure to read. Tragedy, passion and growth are all highlighted during Anne’s journey to be a pride and joy to all of Prince Edward Island. All the characters are also descripted nicely from Rachel to her friends. A classic to be adored for years and years by all age groups, with equal parts fun, family and the whole deal. Rating 5/5

Thoroughly enjoyed for the second time, having read it first as a young child. Was like visiting old and dear friends enjoying a walk down memory lane.
You've got to read this!!!
This book is one of my favourite books because it entertains you and you feel like you are in the book. I would recommend you to read it if you haven't already because you will really enjoy it:)
I think this book is pretty good because it increases your vocabulary and it is very interesting and fun to read.I like the words they use and it really helps my interest in reading, now I read lots of it almost every day
I read through the chapters really fast because this book is so detailed and the words make me feel like I'm right inside the book.
I just finished another re-read of this book and was again reminded that Anne Shirley is one of the most endearing characters in literature and this is one of the most wonderful stories ever told.
