I don't need a museum pass which allows me to go to three museums. A museum pass for just one museum would be fine for me.

Is there a reason why the library maintains this much-hated (from the comments I read) "first-come/first served" policy for museum passes ? If so, it might be an idea that the library make its stubborn rationale for this system viewable on its web site so we can all read it and try to understand the logic. Because so many are frustrated by it, myself included.

I am newly retired and have lots of time on my hands and had a friend suggest I investigate a museum pass and accompany her and her granddaughter to a museum sometime this summer. Any time this summer ! I had the whole summer and came up empty because of this insurmountable first come, first served policy.

Can I suggest that you perhaps cater to the masses instead of the lucky few and change your system ? Make a waiting list for the museum passes like any other item. After the notification has been made to the person who has finally become eligible for one, they should be allowed only one day to come in and pick it up. If they miss their precious window, they can put their name back on the waiting list. These are too precious to be sitting around. Limit the loan period they have it for to 2 or 3 days - tops ! people will still make use of them, but more efficiently - you will see. People will understand these tougher rules because they will understand the demand and that they have to watch for when their turn is coming up and be ready to pick it up and to use it. And make the penalty for late return fairly harsh - perhaps the amount should be the admission price to the museum for every day the person is late in returning it. If a formidable fine is not palatable with the library, then revoke the client's museum pass reservation privilege for a considerable time period. I think steps like these would help make the system more fair and the passes even more valued

Have been waiting weeks for an express pass to go to the museum. They should make more or limit it to 2&3 days use to make it more fair to other who are waiting and have ben waiting forever

It seems ridiculous that so many are way overdue! Library is excellent in most respects but needs to have a better plan for this particular high demand museum pass!

It would be much better to have the number of days limited to 2-3 days. and have more people be able to take advantage of the pass. On many occasions I have confirmed the pass is on the shelf and driven right away arriving in less than 5 minutes only to find the pass gone. Maybe there could be a 15 minute hold if you call and confirm the pass is there.
Many times the passes are over due and people simply hold on to them for several extra days.
Perhaps the late fee should be raised to 20.00/ day to lessen people from doing this.
It is very frustrating.

I’m wondering who monitors the kiosk at hunt club riverside community centre? There is no one to ask for assistance there with the library kiosk and I’m looking for a museum pass. Your site says there are 4 available here, and it didn’t say this an hour ago so I know it’s recent information, but how will I know if the passes have been returned but no one has put them in the machine? Also there are some various items on the same number code, so how would you get to the items at the back without checking out all the other items in front? Maybe a pass is sitting at the back of some books? It’s just not clear here at the kiosk or on your library website...

I was at my local library and I heard the librarian indicate to a patron that they keep the passes behind the counter rather than on the Express shelf....So if this is true of other locations, maybe ask the librarian if it is not on the shelf.

Agree with others - our chances at spotting Big Foot in downtown Ottawa ... AND winning the lottery, are greater than putting your hands on one of these passes! I have been a member for over 50 years and I LOVE the Ottawa Library. So, here's a suggestion: ...with 169 passes available to library branches, perhaps you could make a portion of them available to us via this (very frustrating and infuriating for most) first-come first-serve system and the remainder through the regular reservation system (with maybe a 7 day max borrowing limit). I would rather be the 587th in line for one of these precious puppies, than driving over to a branch that the system says has one available to find it's gone and continue to NEVER actually find one on the express shelf!!! PLEASE, Ottawa Library officials, hear our collective cries for help and consider some kind of compromise?

There is more chance of spotting a turkey in downtown ottawa than getting your hand on one of these. Please, please please change the first come first serve system!

Merci !
