From a young age Alisa Valdes was a committed feminist with her hippie Marxist parents raising her to believe she was meant for better things than playing with Barbies. Instead she grew up reading Betty Friedan. At 22 she was named as one of the top feminist writers under 30. Yet despite her professional success, Valdes turned 42 and found herself bitter, divorced and a serial dater of inadequate men. Realising that her upbringing had sabotaged her personal happiness, she embarks on a soul searching journey and ends up falling for a domineering, conservative cowboy.

(Also not worth a rating): I skimmed this book awhile back, not worth a full read, as the author misportrays herself as a "feminist" when in actuality she is simply a neurotic conservative, who finally, sort of, admits to it.....

I am a firm believer that you read something before negatively talking about it. Feminists already have a bad rep, must they now become Fox News, using what they assume they know instead of actually reading the book? This is how ugly propaganda starts. =(

I'm not going to read this book. I'm a feminist and this does not sound appealing. I do not agree that learning to submit will delight women. Ugh. Must we go backwards??

“An irresistible, post-feminist Taming of the Shrew. Don’t be scared by the premise. This is not a story about a woman relinquishing her identity. Quite the opposite. It is a riveting tale about how a brilliant, strong-minded woman liberated herself from a dreary, male-bashing, reality-denying feminism.” Christina Hoff Sommers, author of The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism is Harming Our Young Men (
