Brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld, who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Carmine Polito is the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the cons and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.

I have given 5 stars for this film. As well as the film being very entertaining with no slow dragged-out parts I found the acting superb and a great plot. Very well done.

I recently watched this for the second time and really enjoyed it. There are definitely nuances that I missed the first time around and I can't deny how much I enjoyed the fashion and music from the late 70's.

Enjoyed it enough to watch it twice (very rare for anything out of Hollywood), about a year or so apart, and it was even more enjoyable the second time (could really hone in on all the subtleties of the many cons, characters, and relationships). Based fairly loosely on a true story (the Abscam scandal).

Good movie about greed. A bit too long.

Con artists are forced by the feds to con criminals, congressmen, a mayor, and the mafia. At times they are conning even the feds. Hey, actors con the movie audience into forgetting that what they are seeing is a movie. It is great fun to watch the actors play double, triple, who knows what level of con in "American Hustle". This film deserves a second look to just figure out if one can tell who is conning who before the con is explicitly revealed by the characters. After watching this film think about it. The cons in this film are peanuts compared to the con job played on the American public on 11-8-16.

May 23 2016....Well, at first I thought....”What is this?” But, after a while, it caught me up and reeled me in. The music, well, for me was a great trip down memory lane. The acting was nothing short of supberb... wow! (Don't forget to watch the extras to see the actors in real life, especially Irving! A total trip back to the decade of the '70's, not my favourite decade, but a good one to laugh at! (I don't remember those plunging necklines, but then I wasn't exactly living in New York either!

It may be easy for non-american audience to understand the content.

This should have been a phenomenal movie, but it truly fell short. The acting was incredible, but the script was just not that great. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were stand-outs, but overall the cast was terrific. I feel like the movie was trying to capture the magic of Goodfellas, but it just couldn't.

Irving Rosenfeld: ... You can fool yourself for just so long, that your next reinvention you better have your damn feet on the ground ... The art of survival, is a story that never ends ... Irving Rosenfeld: Did you ever have to find a way to survive and you knew your choices were bad, *but* you had to survive?

Paco Hernandez: Yeah, I think the name of this operation is offensive. This whole thing is racist. What, ABSCAM? "Arab-scam"? It's racist! --- Irving Rosenfeld: When you are offered a favor or money, take the favor, not the money. Jesus said that, didn't he? ---- Sydney Prosser: [reluctantly realizing his angle] Everybody at the bottom crosses paths eventually in a pool of desperation and you're waiting for them...---Irving Rosenfeld: How about "we"?
