A perfect version of the thing it sets out to be, one of the most intellectual and propulsive of all '80s action films.

Hilarious action film with scathing social commentary- this 1987 film by Paul Verhoeven is far superior to the lame 2014 remake.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie. And it's not so much fiction either - in 2007 Dr. Bill Deagle PhD, a Vancouver MD said on talk radio that 120,000 "super-soldiers" have been ordered to be made in underground labs. He said it's not in Europe, not in America, so..it's probably China where it's made. Dr. Deagle said that human DNA is being mixed with animal ones, like Baboons, and the new super soldier will have extra quick reflexes and such superior physical abilities, that it will be able to run 50 miles per hour and jump 8 meters with a 120kg backpack. Dr. Deagle may be really believable, as he says he is on state commissions on both sides of the border, and he is invited to high NATO conferences too. Now the unmanned drones are being developed too, which look for their targets - let's hope we'll not be those targets. Imagine what those super soldiers and drones would do in Trump-like hands. And, after all, who is the "enemy?" Dr. John Coleman wrote in "The Conspirators' Hierarchy" (1997) that when the world will be united in a totally new System, those who will not want to be part of the controlled system, will be hunted down. Those outlawed will be also labelled as "criminals." Adieu, freedom, and voila, science and technology in fact will enslave us totally.

Classic film with biting social commentary.
Sure the cyborg hero was slow & clunky.
However, it highlighted technology limitations & how adaptable the complex human mind really is in real situations.

Anyone who knows anything knows the original RoboCop is a classic sci-fi pre-apocalyptic dystopian film. What many might not know is that this 2-disc DVD has some truly, truly excellent special features.

In particular I want to bring your attention to the feature called "Special Effects: Then and Now" on disc 2. Such a great feature! The original effects crew go into detail in how they did their effects, using original props and models. This is a must-see for a fan of classic practical effects.

As far as the old action movies go, it aged pretty well. Definitively better than the reboot.

Must disagree. The original "Robocop" has a great, fully-formed story & boasts some razor-sharp satire ("Nuk 'Em" board game, designer heart transplants!). All that's entirely missing in the sequel, which had some decent ideas, but was rather disjointed. With cyborg-level strength, first-rate, high-tech firepower & his cop car, Robo doesn't need to be The Flash. He's got his own, blunter style. A good idea for the sequel, if they'd followed through with it, might've been to give him super-speed, though. I can see where that might come in useful, but that doesn't detract from the original classic.

After a serious 2nd viewing and my eyes now wide open, I quite realize that the original RoboCop is no better and no worse than its first sequel, RoboCop 2._____ With awkwardness in movement being just the first of many problems, the RoboCop character, from a rational standpoint, has got to be one of the most clumsy, slow-moving super-heroes ever introduced to the gullible and jaded movie audience in a long time._____ Being a cop, "Murphy" (in his new incarnation as a complex cyborg) was so stiff and inflexible in movement that he obviously couldn't have chased the bad guys down even if he had wanted to. It was so plain to see that this was one of RoboCop's major downfalls._____ But I certainly can't argue about the grand spectacle of visual effects that I was treated to in this film. The best scene was, of course, saved till near the very last where Murphy and the bad guys confront one another in an explosive, slam-bang showdown at the old steel plant where (to my delight) Emil (the slime) takes a well-deserved bath in a vat of skin-melting toxic waste._____ Terrific stuff!!

Explosions, guns, and robots equal HOMETHEATER. I first saw this movie on 42nd street and bought it first on VHS tape and then dvd. Although i'm not familiar with the version shown, i do have a three disc set with the extended version on it. I prefer the extended version which is more graphic in some scenes. The scene with the robot "Ed- 209" shooting one of the men in the conference room is more visually graphic. So is the scene with Murphy being blown away by the bad guys more visually graphic. I also like ALL the bad guys. I give this movie 4 stars. For being entertaining with good audio and visual effects. Plus, RoboCop looks cool and there are some funny parts. Popcorn, chips and dip with cream soda.
