First watched The 'BURBS almost 30 years ago, and seen it more than a dozen times since. No one in their right mind would attempt a remake because the original is as good as it gets. The cast, script, cinematography and direction all clicked into place. Result: an awesome experience on Mayfield Pl that never ceases to crack one up ... every time. Suburbanites have a shallow gene pool. Who better as a perennial source of mirthful convulsions? If marooned on the proverbial deserted island with a solar-powered DVD player, and a single movie, hopefully Lady Luck smiles upon me and lets it be The 'BURBS.

This is one of those movies that fits into the easy watch category. nothing overly complicated about the story and a great cast. Rick Ducommun is hilarious as Tom Hanks' neighbour Ray. Bruce Dern does an awesome job at playing a whacked out army veteren. And Carrie Fischer in a flower print summer dress? that in itself makes it worth watching. It just might find its way into my personal collection.

I swear, after I watched this movie, I was convinced my slightly strange (totally normal) neighbors were out to kill me. Watch before dark.....hehehehehehehe........

This is one of my favorite movies. Tom Hanks is hysterical and the situations are really funny. It is a silly movie, but with hilarious moments. (And, please, keep in mind this was made in the 80's.)

I had the highest expectations, due to the hype generated by cult fans of this film. A slightly creepy, mostly quirky comedy about the new neighbours who act a little too strange and may be hiding some dirty laundry in their backyard -- sounds like a delightful inversion of THE STEPFORD WIVES with a young Tom Hanks. Unfortunately, that's not what I got and it was greatly disappointing, with very little story. It felt dopey and unrealistic, and not in that fun light-hearted way that is entertaining regardless of the story. No, sadly, for me, THE BURBS was the turds. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I've always enjoyed this Hanks-driven silly 80's comedy. Moves along at a brisk pace with some memorable and unique scenes and dialogue. Supporting characters are funny and fleshed out. Ends well.

Ray Petersen suspects his new neighbors of murdering the former owners and burying them in the backyard. But that's just crazy, isn't it? Tom Hanks delivers on his comedic genius in this suburban satire. ~WeAreSpartacus/notTom
