Juicy and pulpy. Just the right amount of classic 40s/50s horror style, and a really interesting question of "who's the real monster?"
The style calls the work of Jacques Tourneur to mind, but Franje comes across as far more diabolical. Beautiful ending, too. I'll be watching it again.

The price of vanity is very high in this movie. It isn't as violent as one may expect from the ominous synopsis but worth a watch.
