This is the definitive account of the Steven Avery crime saga. Unlike any other articles, books or documentaries, it provides an insider's access to the complete facts surrounding the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005 and how Mr. Avery's trial became intertwined with Steven Avery's wrongful conviction in 1985. Griesbach explains the need for the new and complete account, saying "while Steven Avery's wrongful conviction in 1985 was one of local law enforcement's darkest hours, his conviction for murder twenty-two years later is one of its finest."

I have to admit I did not know about Steven Avery until the Netflix series "Making a Murderer". There are several books now available about his case(s).

Of the books I have read, Indefensible comes closest to how I interpret the actions of Mr Avery and the law enforcement officials involved. The author delved into Mr Avery's past including several brushes with the law long before the Theresa Hallbach murder.

What I enjoyed most about this book is that it did not get bogged down in the repeat of trial transcripts. The reader can look up that information on their own.

The saddest part of the book are the interviews recorded with Steven Avery's extended family. The young people (nieces and nephews) that came in contact with him and had their lives changed forever. Particularly compelling is the story of Avery's second cousin, Sandra Morris. She and her husband(a deputy) lived down the road from Steven Avery and her story is absolutely chilling about Avery watching her (and worse) as she drove to work in the morning.
