Charged with murdering his father, Mike initially confesses to the crime. But as the trial proceeds, chilling evidence about the kind of man that Boone Lassiter really was comes to light. While Ramsay uses the evidence to get his client acquitted, his new colleague Janelle tries to dig deeper.

My main concern with this film is that it was rated G on the box. In my opinion, it is not at all suitable for a general audience. Because of the violent behaviour and sex scenes, I would give it a "R" rating. The plot was good and certainly kept me in suspense until the end, however, the acting was only average. I found the ending anti-climatic.

I felt this was an hour or so filler from anything on TV. My title would be NOT the Whole Truth. It was poorly put together; an attempt to throw in the red herring diversion; just kind of silly. John Belushi played the creepy character well & I loved to despise him. Keanau was a bit off. I had to reread the cover box to figure out who the wife/mother was despite watching her on screen. What the heck has happened to RZ of beauty in years not so long past? I did not recognize her. Recommend? not unless you're really desperate.

Good film, but for a Keannu-as-a-lawyer movie, he can't top The Devil's Advocate (1997).

Quite good, not great. The acting is... so-so? Everyone (except Belushi) seems to be imitating Keanu Reeves' low-key minimalism. The most disappointing thing is that it was filmed in Louisiana, set in Louisiana and yet has no Louisiana flavour whatsoever. It could've taken place in Colorado or Ohio.

The ending was not what I suspected. Given it takes place mostly in a court room, it is hard to make it super 'exciting' for those who like fast moving. Reasonably put together.

Excellent courtroom drama, with particular emphasis on how lawyers perceive jurors and how jurors perceive the truth.

The only downside to me is that there isn't much hinging on the outcome. With something like the Scopes trials, the whole concept of rationality and modernity hinges on the outcome. Or in a major human rights or death penalty case, a lot hinges on the outcome. And in addition none of the major characters are really likeable when the outcome is known, none of them is all that admirable, even those that took risks and laid it on the line are not that appealing by the end. I am not sure that we are even ever told whether this was a capital issue in whatever state it occurred in.

How much do you know about Muhammad Ali?
-I know he didn't go to law school.
Better than that. In 1974, he took on George foreman, who was seven years younger, and had knocked out every man he'd fought. Foreman was at his peak. And Ali, round after round, just stood there getting pounded. He wouldn't or couldn't fight back. No one knew which.
-You mean the rope-a-dope?
Yeah. And finally, in the eighth round, foreman got tired, tired of punching, exhausted himself.
Suddenly, Ali came to life. In one round, foreman was on the canvas like an old man.
Why won't he talk to you?
-That's the problem with people who refuse to speak. They never say why.

Listen. It's your call, but Stanford is one of the top schools in the country and you got in early. I mean, look, I'm happy to go to Reed, check it out, but... It's weird. Maybe we should just declare
victory and head home early, huh? Surprise your mom? (A Surprise of all surprises for them.)
I didn't do that to save you!
The jury believed xxyyzz, ignored the facts and the law, did what they knew was right.
At some point, every defense lawyer has to choose between his own need to know the truth and the best interests of his client.
A wife doesn't have to testify against her husband, but a mother does against her child? Like the bond is somehow less or something? (It is True!)
