Far from a fairytale, Waking Sleeping Beauty is an unprecedented eye-opening look at the conflict, drama and tension that ushered in the second chapter of Disney's animation legacy, a decade of unparalleled creativity that included The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King. Told by the people who were actually there: Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy E. Disney, John Lasseter and many more, Waking Sleeping Beauty is a behind-the-magic look at the people and circumstances that changed the face of animation forever.

Uses documentary footage, as well as home movies by staffers, to build a picture of the studio's huge comeback in the 1980s, focusing almost entirely on the complete corporate leadership change instigated by Roy DIsney to revitalize its foundering animated product (esp. if you count Mary Poppins and Roger Rabbit as part animation). To people interested in studio animation and how it got made (or in film history) this is a good film made by people who were there at this critical time for studio animation. We are still benefiting from this revitalization with a steady stream of high quality animated feature films. Lots of bonus features on the disc too.

Don't tell me you bought into this glitzy, self-serving propaganda to reassure Disney stockholders and control damage inflicted on the corporation by the unflattering book, "Disney War".

This is a FABULOUS documentary. I highly recommended it to anyone who like behind the scenes portions of DVD extras! I have a new respect for Disney and full length animation. The genius that went into The Little Mermaid was just amazing!

This is a great documentary that provides insight into the world of the Disney animation studio that created animated masterpieces, such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. It was interesting to see the turmoil going on at the studio that was unbeknowst to the viewers at the time.
