Directed by Norman Jewison in 1979, this courtroom drama depicts a criminal justice system where criminals might go free, lawyers and judges make deals as a matter of routine and the innocent sometimes go unprotected.
Al Pacino playes a young lawyer Arthur Kirkland who has to defend a corrupt judge.
When it comes down to the trial, Arthur must choose between the security of his career and his personal integrity.
Amazing, amusing and unforgettable is an explosive final courtroom scene supported by Pacino's fine performance.

I like Al Pacino movies, included this one. Still good acting and realities of Justice done.

This movie was plain awful, an embarrassment to watch. The movie takes itself too seriously to work as a slapstick comedy and the plot is too ridiculous to work as a courtroom drama. Norman Jewison has had other lapses of judgement (Rollerball, for instance). In the most ludicrous scene, the lawyers get into a shouting match and the judge (Jack Warden) fires a handgun at the courtroom ceiling to calm things down. I don't believe this has ever occurred even once in American legal history; it appears all the more ridiculous because it apparently didn't occur to the judge to use his gavel before resorting to the firearm. The final drama tries for a twist ending and fails miserably, Pachino's performance is unbelievable in the worst sense of the word. It's a shame, because Canada has so few well known directors.

Arthur Kirkland (Al Pacino): "You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They're out of order!"
