Just look at that title! How could this youth library employee with a male child not love this one?? I read this immediately after pulling it off the holds shelf, and plan to read it to my boy tonight. It's such a sweet story! The titular boy, Melvin, wasn't actually 100% raised by librarians- instead, this book tells the story of all the support and encouragement that he received from his three local childrens librarians growing up. They helped him classify bugs in first grade and ace his science fair in middle school and gave him a part time job in high school. And the ending is FANTASTIC! I won't give it away. It's a picture book- you definitely have enough time to read it and get to the best ending ever. The titular librarians are librarians I could certainly strive to emulate, and I also hope for my boy that he finds that kind of "second home" in our local library as he grows up.

This book shows the power and influence of books, libraries, and librarians in a child's life. It reminds me why I became a librarian. I strive to be like these ladies.

Melvin visits the Library every day after school. He doesn’t really live at the Library but he spends lots of time there. His favourite Librarians are Marge, Betty and Leeola. They help him find info about everything from snakes, bugs, fish, animals and even science fair projects. “They just can’t help themselves.” Melvin loves attending the Library programs, especially “Spend the Night at the Library”. He develops a love of learning and a great relationship with the Librarians. This book has wonderful illustrations. A must read. Reviewed by CP

This book was adorable! I really enjoyed reading about Melvin's journey through school and one of the librarians actually reminded me of my former professor.

What's not to love? A cute story of a little boy who loves the library ("Melvin lived in the Livingston Public Library. Well...he didn't really live there. He just spent lots and lots of time there.") and the three librarians who help him on his journey through school and into his own career.

They couldn't help it. That's how librarians are.
