A Victorian era Ocean's Eleven. Enjoyable if you can get past the writing style.

Good historical account, but I was a little bored by it. I liked his other books better. I was waiting for some action and it just lacked the punch of his other novels.

I read this more than twenty years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. However not sure why it's listed under 'new books'. Jude

The Great Train Robbery --- by Michael Crichton -----
This work of historical fiction by the prolific fiction writer perhaps best known for having penned the classic Jurassic Park has based this novel on an event that really took place in Britain during the middle of the nineteenth century. This is a time with which none alive today have first-hand experience. Creighton meticulously sets the stage for us by instructing us in the social structure, every-day life, especially among the lower classes of this time. The protagonist speak in the argot of their time and place and station: some of the language may be beyond our reach, at least at first. There is a mega dose of suspense as the groundwork is laid for this audacious deed. And yes, the robbery is pulled off with complete success. It is what happens afterwards that is the undoing. But to tell you about that would be to rob you of the suspense. This is a book well worth reading.
