Alexandra Cooper of the Manhattan District Attorney's office finds her attention torn between investigating a shipwreck that most certainly involves human trafficking and the sex scandal of a promising New York congressman. When she discovers that a woman from the wreck and the congressman's lover have the same tattoed brand, she realizes that the cases aren't as unrelated as they seem and that the entire political landscape of New York City could hang in the balance of her investigation.

This is the first one of her books I've read. Perhaps not one of her best?

Unless you want to read about the history of New York City and Gracie mansion, I'd give it a pass. gave up after 250 pgs (with an other 180 to go).

As usual, Linda Fairstein has written an intricate, absorbing mystery that keeps you guessing to the last minute. It's always nice to visit familiar characters, and they're all there.
