Have to agree with commenter, jomac_05, the acting simply wasn't up to par, although very nice scenery, including Amanda Seyfried, always a pleasure to watch.

Who knew that there was a beautiful original story still out there. This is a must see and I will be added it to my library. Thanks so much Hollywood.

I found this utterly lacking in charm. couldn't even pretend to iike the young people.

Vanessa Redgrave is gracefully wonderful.

In today's film world, where CGI, and explosion and profanity laden movies seem to be the norm, this is a refreshing and welcome change that harkens back to what makes for great cinema. Letters to Juliet reminds us what redeeming values we can take from a good film. Amanda Seyfried is absolutely enchanting and the cinematography is among the most beautiful seen in recent film. These movies, this, Midnight in Paris, and To Rome with Love owe so much to the classic Audrey Hepburn movie Roman Holiday, and like the 1953 classic, here you have on display, fine acting, gorgeous scenery, and two lead characters who are played as real and genuine as you can get for a film. I call these films Picture Postcards, as here, you get to see in full view the grand city of Verona. I especially love how the relationship between Seyfried's character and the young male lead, assist in bringing the older couple to one another. Truly a pleasure and I couldn't recommend this any more than I have.

Actress Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, seeking true love in a sort of mixed Italian soup of Verona, Shakespeare, and out-takes from Romeo and Juliet. B+ acting from youthful Seyfried, but all can be forgiven, since the story captures the heart, and Redgrave delivers a shining performance. Overall this movie works. It's a keeper.

Ok you are not looking for Oscar award material - from this movie. It is not deep, intellectual, or an amazing feat of acting. It is a nice, feel good movie. It is a very light topic, and enjoyable. Specifically the drives through the countryside somehow put you into a good mood. I definitely enjoyed watching this with my wife.

Claire: [Addressing the wedding party] "Dear friends, fifty years ago, I went to Juliet's house in Verona. I wrote her a letter and asked her a question. And two months ago, I received a reply. And without that letter, none of us would be here today. [Claire begins to read Sophie's letter to her]
'Dear Claire, WHAT and IF are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side by side, and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life. What if?, What if?, What if? I don't know how your story ended, but if what you felt then was true love, then it's never too late. If it was true then, why wouldn't it be true now?
You need only the courage to follow your heart. I don't know what a love like Juliet's feels like; love to leave loved ones for, love to cross oceans for. But I'd like to believe, if I ever were to feel it, that I'd have the courage to seize it. And Claire, if you didn't, I hope one day that you will. All my love, Juliet.' "

Sophie: I didn't go to him, Juliet. I didn't go to Lorenzo. His eyes were so full of trust I promised I'd meet him and run away together because my parents don't approve. But, instead, I left him waiting for me below our tree - waiting and wondering where I was. I'm in Veronoa now. I return to London in the morning and I am so afraid. Please, Juliet tell me what I should do. My heart is breaking and I have no one else to turn to. Love, Claire
