Heavy story. Great performance. Makes you give another thought to crime and punishment, justice and mercy.

Brad Davis plays a young man who made the mistake of trying to make a quick buck by smuggling drugs out of Turkey. He then gets to live in one of the worst prisons in the world. Which is worse, that prison or hell? This must be one of the best prison films ever made.

An amazing prison film about the punishment failing to fit the crime, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS is beautifully crafted. It is brutal and seemingly realistic, telling the story of a young American man trapped in a Turkish prison, the effect that has on him, and how that young man eventually decides he cannot take it any longer. If you can handle it, I highly recommend it.

Bill Hayes, on whose book this movie was based, said in an interview that the movie distorts the reality of Turkish prisons. He does not say that Turkish prisons were good. But he said that all Turks were depicted as evil in the movie, which is not true. You can find the interview on youtube.

Youngsters, dont try to smuggle drugs out of Turkey, it ends up bad. Well anywhere where western justice cant reach. Good movie though, the ending seems a little unbelievable, but sometimes stuff like that happens.
