The protagonist isn't really very likable. Brooklyn, after learning that she has magic, instantly goes to change her outer appearance. I can see that the author is trying to relate to girls out there who may have always wanted to do so, but that doesn't showcase a strong main character at all. I really don't ship the guy with her. She is determined to "fit" in with the popular group, and does reckless things to prove that she can. The book was more about this than about magic, love, or trying to keep secrets hidden. While I guess I enjoyed it at times, it was overall a bit frustrating to read. To everyone out there: the only person you have to prove anything to is yourself. 3/5 stars - @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
