Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, and Ian McKellen give good performances in this love letter to Shakespeare, telling the story of his later years, after he stopped writing and returned home and finally had to face all the family issues he'd left in the countryside for years. The film takes recorded facts and reads between the lines to portray the legendary Bard (and his older wife, and even giving life to his little-known daughters) as a very human person haunted by very human hang-ups and insecurities. It gets you right in the feels by the end.
Interesting extras discuss many of the real-life scandals and speculations about the Bard's private life. A good film for fans of family drama, historical films, celebrity stories, or Shakespeare himself!
