I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I had seen another Daniel Clowes adaptation and was disappointed. "Ghost World" was very refreshing indeed. I loved the quirky characters - and there are many (Doug, the loitering and shirtless nunchuks guy really was brilliant!) - and some of the fictitious business names are classic (Sidewinder convenience store anyone? How about Computer Station?). But the story is hard-hitting too, as the relationship between the two main characters changes and their once inseparable closeness fades over the course of experiencing their brief first taste of life after high school. Following up, the bonus material was loaded with great stuff like a full-length musical production of one of the soundtrack songs. It was set in Southeast Asia in the mid-60's, a young woman is dancing not-too-subtly backed up by a full band, and the bandleader is singing a lively ballad in what I can only understand to be some dialect of an Indo-Asiatic language. It is so enchanting that it makes me want to find out more about this video snippet. I'm going to checkout the original graphic novel and see how the original story lines compare to the movie's. P.S. - Anything with Steve Buscemi in it is usually great.
